more bike parking stations

são paulo, brazil        urbanism          in progress

for the promotion of sustainable urban mobility, it is important to understand the bicycle as a mode of transport in the mobility network, integrated in the system through an accessible cycling network and parking infrastructure - the bike racks.

in the city of são paulo, the SICLO law (Law nº 16.885/2018) and the mobility plan (PlanMob 2015) established the municipality's goal, by 2024, to implementation of bicycle parking spaces in all transport stations and terminals. this challenge also appears it the goals plan (2021-2024), which includes the goal of implementing bike racks in all urban bus terminals. however, the city is far from achieving this goal: currently only 48 of the 162 listed locations (30%) have bicycle parking spaces. Of the existing bike racks, the overcrowding of many bicycle racks in operation, both in the city and in the metropolis of são paulo, stands out. in this context, it is observed that many users end up parking their bicycles in railings or nearby trees, without the guarantee of having their bicycles when they return, due to the high number of thefts.

In this way, in order to promote intermodality, build infrastructure to promote the use of bicycles and encourage more people to ride, the aromeiazero institute, in partnership with ciclocidade and sponsored by itau unibanco, develops the “more bicycle racks” project. which proposes to build a bike rack near a high capacity station in an area with high levels of vulnerability, on the outskirts of the city of são paulo.
